Has it been three years already? June 20th is the date of Hawaii Book Blog’s inaugural post three years ago, and it just so happened to be a review of a cookbook! In celebration of our blog birthday we’ll be giving away HBB prize packs–see details below. We’ll be celebrating all week, so come back later for more giveaways or exclusive coupons to our shop!
Alex and I have learned and experienced a great deal over the last few years and we’re so grateful to all the readers, authors and publishers who support us. HBB has grown and changed a lot, and we still have a lot of exciting things planned for the future… like maybe for our next birthday we’ll have a party! 🙂
Starting out, we had lofty goals for HBB, one of which was (and still is) to help increase awareness and interest in local books and authors. Although we encourage people to read more in general, through experience, we’ve learned that there’s nothing else like “reading local”. And not just in Hawaii, but wherever you may be… there’s bound to be an interesting story or author to discover just around the corner. So, in addition to “Shaka for Books” we’ve adopted “Read Local”. Buy local, eat local… why not read local? Stay tuned in the next couple of weeks for our “Read Local” Booklist and other fun stuff (definitely a t-shirt, since we love ’em so much).
It’s exciting to see how other forms of local media have begun to write and report more frequently on Hawaii books and literary events. But it also makes us want to take HBB up a level, and that’s where you, our awesome readers, come in. We wanna know what you like and don’t like about HBB. What would you like to see more or less of? What are you looking for when you visit the site? Your opinions and feedback will greatly help us.
