The 2011 Ka Palapala Poʻokela Awards gala is coming soon (Friday, May 6) and to generate excitement for the event as well as educate the public on the nominees, I am doing a countdown, quickly highlighting the books nominated for each awards category. Where applicable, I will link to book reviews from Hawaiʻi Book Blog.

These are the nominees for best photographic or illustrative books. Unlike the keiki books, the adult books tend to skew more photographic than illustrative. Lots of books from UH Press, including a book on art, two on birds, and one on architecture. The other book being a photographic book on a specific species of fish! Have you read any of these books?
